We can unconsciously activate emotional regulation mechanisms to deal with difficult situations and adapt to potential stressors. Emotional regulation refers to the ability to effectively manage and respond to an experience while also developing resilience. Emotional blockages, on the other hand, can prevent people from listening. They can become emotionally stuck at a younger age, specifically when they experience the initial trauma.
